Black Women in Sport Foundation Remembers Ed Snider
Community Partnership Provided Opportunity
for Black Girls to Play Ice Hockey
(Philadelphia, PA 2016) – Flyers owner Ed Snider’s impact on African-American females in ice hockey could be touted as a little known black history fact. Fact:The Black Women in Sport Foundation (BWSF), Philly Out-of- School Time (OST) Programs and the Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation (ESYHF) partnership gave young black inner-city girls an opportunity to learn and appreciate the oft-times male-dominated sport of ice hockey. They also learned discipline, determination and fun that will stay with them for a lifetime.
BWSF Co-founder and President Tina Sloan Green stresses the importance of giving back and giving individuals an opportunity. The BWSF, OST and ESYHF partnership created a rare opportunity for a group of African-American female elementary school students from Martha Washington School.
