Welcome to the Foundation: Black Women in Sport Foundation Awards Fall Internships to Tolulope Omokore and Jasmyn Mackell
The Black Women in Sport Foundation (BWSF) welcomes our Fall 2020 interns, Tolulope Omokore and Jasmyn Mackell.
A University of Central Florida (UCF) graduate student in the DeVos Sport Business Management program, Mackell holds a Graduate Assistantship with Dr. C. Keith Harrison, one of the program’s directors. Jasmyn holds a Bachelors of Business Administration from the Goizueta Business School at Emory University with a concentration in Strategy and Management Consulting.
Following her time at Emory, Jasmyn worked as a high school Business Education teacher at her alma mater, Annapolis High School. While there, she had the opportunity to support students in the Change Engineering Signature program which focused on creating holistic students, fostering an interest in social justice and entrepreneurship, and overall encouraging students to be the change that they wanted to see in the world. Having served as the Head Student Manager of the Women’s Basketball team, Senior Student Administrator of the Black Student Union, and Deputy Editor of Black Star Magazine during her time at Emory, Mackell brings a breadth of knowledge and experiences to the internship position that she hopes to utilize to create lasting change during her time at BWSF. While here, Mackell hopes to advance the digital presence of the Foundation while learning how to best serve as a resource to Black women in professional environments. Upon graduation, Jasmyn plans to utilize her talents to increase representation for Black women at the intersection of the sport and technology industries.
Also a University of Central Florida (UCF) graduate student in the DeVos Sports Business Management program, Omokore holds a Graduate Assistantship with its Institute of Sports and Social Justice (ISSJ). While completing her undergrad at UCF, she was a starter on the women’s basketball team that won a program-record 26 games and advanced to the NCAA Tournament her senior season.
Omokore brings a mixed skills set of athletics, social justice and administration to the internship position that supports the work of BWSF. During her time with the Foundation, Omokore hopes to gain knowledge on how nonprofits operate. Upon completion of the program, Omokore plans on using the power of sports to help bring positive change within society.
Fun Fact: Omokore is the host of Invisible Women in Sports Zoom cast where she interviewed our very own BWSF co-founder, Tina Sloan-Green, board member Traci Green, and countless other powerful women in the sport industry.
