BWSF Hall-of-Famer Tina Sloan Green Celebrates NGWSD at Temple University Luncheon
(2/7/2024) 38th Annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day
Temple University Athletics hosted National Girls and Women in Sports Day #NGWSD events to recognize the achievements of girls and women in sports and to encourage girls in Philadelphia to participate in sports and fitness activities. Their events took place along with more than 1,000 events taking place throughout the country and with those in our local community.
All sports teams were featured throughout the day, with Temple Owls female student-athletes taking center stage during each event.
During the panel lunch, Black Women in Sport Foundation Co-founder & Multi-sport Hall-of-Famer Tina Sloan Green shared impromptu words of wisdom with the high school student audience.
The Panel Lunch discussion for local high school girls was held in Charles Library. Temple Women’s Sport Student-Athletes hosted the lunch (sponsored by Temple University’s Sport, Tourism, and Hospitality Management program) to discuss the transition to college, expectations for participation in a varsity sport, and provide the girls a tour of campus.

Among the other dynamic women in attendance were Dr. Amy Giddings, the first woman chair of the School of Sport, Tourism, and Hospitality Management at Temple department of Sport and Recreation Management; Tamiko Ward, M.Ed, PMP, Director, Compliance Monitoring, School District of Philadelphia; Stacy Riggins, Philadelphia High School for Girls; Dr. Andrea Swan, Director, Community and Neighborhood Affairs at Temple University; Jessica Reo, Executive Senior Associate AS/SWA (VB, WBB, MCrew, WRow Temple University; Kelli Sheesley Schmid, Assistant Athletic Director/Creative Services Temple University; and Dr. Germaine Edwards, BWSF Program and Communication Coordinator.
Temple University Vice Provost for Enrollment Management, Jose Aviles, welcomed the attendees and shared information about the great resources available to students.
